Teknologic Engineering Services Inc. announced that it has completed the asset purchase of Ross Laboratories Inc. on July 25, 2014 and formed a new company called Ross Labs LLC. The new company headquartered in Edmonds, Wash. will continue to manufacture the Ross Hydrographic survey equipment line which is sold in the U.S. and internationally. The new company will operate under the name Ross Labs LLC.

Ross Labs LLC will manufacture the same products utilizing its previous employees and enhancing its engineering skill set with Teknologic’s capabilities. Teknologic was formed in 1999, by engineers with an accomplished history in acoustic transducer design, sonar and imaging systems, signal processing, data acquisition, analysis and display, unmanned underwater and airborne vehicles, control and monitoring systems, mine countermeasures and test system development.

In 1953 Ross laboratories produced the first compact depth sounder that was small enough to fit on both pleasure and commercial fishing boats. By 1969, Ross Laboratories had branched into the hydrographic survey field. Along with NOAA and Digital Equipment Corp. they helped interface the first depth digitizer to an onboard computer. This state-of-the art system for its day was installed on the NOAA ship Whiting at Norfolk, Va.

Today the Ross line of equipment starts with a compact single beam sounder and goes up to a complete bathymetric survey system capable of single beam, side scan and sub bottom profiling, popular with surveyors who are on the move working in small boats.

The sale of assets to Ross Labs LLC focuses the synergy of two companies through the utilization of Teknologic’s engineering experience coupled with the production of the popular Ross suite of equipment. The engineering background and hydrographic survey experience brought together will make new product development faster and allow Ross products to continue to be some of the best in the industry, the company said.

According to Jim Ross, longtime president of Ross Laboratories Inc., “This is a good thing for Ross laboratories and our customers. It will insure the future for the support and modernization of our products and I will still be able to continue working with the many friends and great customers I have been fortunate to meet over the years providing sales and technical support.”

Ross Labs LLC will retain the core employees who will continue to support its customers as in the past.
